Make a multitude of beautiful, natural products for your
garden, from willow plant supports, mini hurdles and
woven trellis to more sculptural items such as woven
willow flowers and dragonflies. We will also explore
other practical uses for willow in the garden and
discuss the sourcing, gathering and storing of willow
for future projects of your own.

chair from nothing more than a pile of sticks. These
traditional rustic seats are immensely pleasing to the
eye and very satisfying to make. They will be made from
coppiced hazel wood. If you wish to work at a slightly
more leisurely pace, a third day is available on the 6th
July for an extra £50. Includes a G&T at the end of the
course to celebrate the completion of your chair.

Greenwood Carving & Whittling

Learn the ancient art of carving your own cooking and
eating implements from sustainably coppiced green wood.
We will carve and whittle a selection of small items
such as an eating spoon, a spatula and a small eating
bowl. Using traditional hand tools such as knives, axes
and chisels, you will be taught a range a cutting
techniques and have the chance to buy some tools to
enable you to continue practising your new hobby at
home.

Make a Rustic Stool with Willow Seat

Have a go at making a simple yet beautiful stool using locally
coppiced hazel round wood for the frame and a woven
willow for the seat. The frame is of mortice and tenon
construction made using simple hand tools. You will take
away a wonderful stool which will stand the test of
time.

Come and make your very own beautiful and natural
rustic chair. You can make an arm chair, side chair,
toddlers high chair, or a bar stool. Or come on the 4
day course and make either two chairs, or one chair and
a small rustic coffee table! The frames will be made
from sustainably coppiced hazel wood, with mortice and
tenon joints. The seat can either be woven using a
selection of coloured willow or of solid wood. There
will be a small additional materials charge for a coffee
table.

Hazel Coppice Restoration
& Coppicing

Learn the skills and secrets involved in the ancient
practice of coppicing. This hands on course will teach
you how to coppice and restore neglected hazel coppice.
In particular we will look at restocking methods
including layering, tree spacing, factors contributing
to vigorous coppice regeneration and tree
identification.

A day exploring a multitude of traditional coppice

baskets. You will take away with you a few items and
gain a huge insight into the wide array of sustainable
uses of the coppice harvest.

Wattle Hurdle Making Weekend

Learn the ancient skills to make your very own hazel
wattle hurdle to take away. We will use a traditional
hurdle pattern and practise the skills of riving,
winding and weaving the hazel.
The course fee includes the
materials to make one 6ft by 3ft hurdle.

or groups by arrangement. If you have a hedge in need of
restoration, or a group of conservation volunteers,
community group or willing friends, I can give you the
training you will need to get you started. All tools,

Your Tutor....
All of the courses are taught by Dave Jackson.
Dave has 11 years experience of teaching woodland crafts and
we have a reputation for making and selling quality coppice
products. We aim for people to end the day delighted with what they
have made and learnt.

Accommodation.....

The Venue - The Wildwood Workshop
..
most of the courses are held in a purpose made covered craft
workshop near Malvern, Worcestershire. The workshop lies
within beautiful rural countryside, is well equipped, with
space to work, rest and play! We have a lounge area next to
the stream, a compost toilet and space for camping if
required. It is a tranquil and relaxing space in which to
spend a day or a few. The Coppicing course will be held at Park Wood, details of which will be
confirmed prior to the course
